History

George and Ruth color

George and Ruth Ahrens founded Twin Gardens in Harvard, Illinois, in 1954. The farm is currently managed by third and fourth-generation family members. Our focus remains, as it was on day one, on QUALITY!

In the early 1950s, George Ahrens was a part-time vegetable farmer and a part-time gravel truck driver. His desire was to be like his father and be just a vegetable farmer.  George and his wife Ruth moved from Des Plaines, Ill., and bought the 200 acres on which Twin Gardens is today. About two years later they purchased the adjacent 200 acres and thus the name Twin Gardens.

The main focus from day one has always been and will always be quality and consistency.

Twin Gardens prides itself on being on the cutting edge. We were one of the first sweet corn growers to grow SH2 sweet corn. We were the first sweet corn farm in the Midwest to package sweet corn in a corrugated box with ice on it.

That frame of mind led us to develop the most flavorsome corn in the world: Mirai®.
