Get Your Apron On…Homemade Granola

 

Continuing with our January breakfast series...Homemade Granola.

In our home we love keeping a jar of granola on hand.
It's perfect for those busy mornings and
healthier than store bought cereal.

Granola is such a simple, yet versatile food to have in the kitchen.
It can be eaten with milk like cereal or used as a topping on
fresh yogurt or ice cream.

Another healthy idea is to slice bananas and roll the slices into the granola
coating all sides...perfect for an afternoon snack. Kids love it!

Here is one of our favorite recipes.
*Note..Your house is going to smell wonderful while this bakes!

Graham Chocolate Chip Granola

6 cups of quick oats
2 cups of brown sugar
2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups butter {melted}
4 cups of wheat flour {do NOT substitute white flour!}
1 cup coconut {optional
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Mix all dry ingredients in large bowl {minus chocolate chips}
Add melted butter. Mix well.

Place granola on cookie sheet or cake pan...
...bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown at 375 degrees.
Stir often to prevent clumping and burning.
Add chocolate chips after granola is cooled.

{...don't feel guilty if you can't wait and
simply must eat a bowl while it's still hot!}
